Local horticulturists and ‘seed detective’ Adam Alexander is offering free, expert guidance to anyone who has no experience of growing their own vegetables but would like to give it a try.
"We need to be growing more food and for people stuck at home gardening is hugely therapeutic and beneficial for our health and well-being, but also means we can have access to fresh produce. I am very happy to provide advice and support where I can".
Adam has started a series of 'Starting from scratch' articles on his Vegging Out With Adam website that give a step-by-step guide on how to start your own vegetable patch.
An obstacle that needs to be overcome is sourcing seeds due to the covid-19 pandemic. The garden centres are closed and on-line shops overwhelmed with orders. Adam is also offering to to share some of his surplus plants and seeds with local new gardeners. He is also asking other local gardeners to take a look at what spare vegetables seed they might have. "Even sharing a new packet of seeds can make a huge difference as we often sow more than we need, waste loads because they have to be thinned".
